Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test

FEMA and the FCC will run a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System at 1:20 p.m. our time (2:20 p.m. Eastern). Radio stations, TV stations and cable systems will interrupt programming briefly with the test tones and this message:

“This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 2:20 to 2:50 hours ET. This is only a test. No action is required by the public.”

Unlike the 2023 test, this one will not come to cell phones — FEMA is testing only the radio and TV side this time.

Nothing to do — it’s only a test. If conditions that day force a delay, it will run on Thursday, December 3 instead.

If the test doesn’t come through on your station, or something about it goes wrong, the FCC asks people to report it at its Public Safety Support Center.
